LEAT, LHRC, TGNP, CIEL and IISD allowed to file written submission in the Biwater v. United Republic of Tanzania arbitral dspute before the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) External link

Washington, D.C., February 2, 2007

LEAT, LHRC, TGNP, CIEL and IISD have been allowed to file a written submission in the Biwater v. United Republic of Tanzania arbitral dispute before the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) External link. In 2005 the Tanzanian government rescinded the City Water and DAWASA water supply and management agreement for the city of Dar es Salaam alleging, among other things, performance failure. Biwater, City Water parent company, as a result filed an arbitral dispute before ICSID alleging breach of contract and seeking full compensation. LEAT and its partners, on November 27 2006, filed and application to be allowed the amicus brief status because of the sensitivity of the dispute and the overriding public interests inolved.

The full text of the ICSID's order (PDF, 914KB) granting LEAT and its partners amicus brief status is available in Adobe PDF format (914KB).
